Lewis Hamilton Sees Ferrari As Threat

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says he is wary of Ferrari as a threat at the Australian Grand Prix. He is expecting Ferrari to give them a tougher challenge than expected at the season-opening. Following Sebastian Vettel’s comments saying the leading champions Mercedes started the weekend as favourites, Hamilton believes Ferrari was deliberately discussing their chances down ahead of Sunday’s race.

At the pre-season testing in Spain, Ferrari set the pace of five of the eight days in the run-up to this race, but Ferrari driver Vettel said he believed they were still not yet at Mercedes’ level. Vettel was asked if they have what it takes to trouble Mercedes, his answer was “I think we have. The question is: Are we ready in time?” He further elaborated by saying Ferrari took a good step over the winter. The target is to turn things around and become favourites in the future.

Hamilton has won three world titles in total and has achieved his aim of matching the record of his childhood idol Ayrton Senna, both in races and championships won. Hamilton said he is motivated to keep on moving and always looks for that perfect lap. He also added he is looking forward to the journey.

Although the season starts with a number of rule changes, including stringent restrictions and a new qualifying format, it looks like the race will be more challenging.

Australian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, 20 March 2016 at 05:00 GMT
