Day-One Of Australian Open 2016

It is a good start to the Australian Open for Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios as they all proceed to the next round. However, Heather Watson and Kyle Edmund both suffered first-round defeats on day one at the Australian Open 2016 in Melbourne.

United Kingdom’s Heather Watson who ranks 79th in the world has failed to win against Hungary’s Timea Babos before 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 7-5 defeat in the Women’s Singles. Babos who ranks 60th in the world played forcefully in just under three hours to claim her victory against Watson.

Watson who had an early exit seemed nervous as she served for the match and lost energy as the Hungarian showed aggression and power. She then delivered three successive games to take the second set and level the match. After Watson pulled level at 5-5, Babos served the match and make her opponent fail in her next service game and lose the match.

Injuries cost Edmund a match at the Australian Open

Edmund who also got eliminated in the first-round had suffered frustrating injury problems as he lost 1-6 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-3 6-1 to Damir Dzumhur who ranks 81st in the world. 21-year-old Edmund said he is very disappointed after losing, but obviously it was not his tennis that let him down, it’s his body.

There are allegations of match fixing hovered in the background, will this be true? Just follow “The Guardian” as the Australian Open 2016 happens.
